What is "material design"? In a nutshell, material design is Google's new visual look for Android, Chrome OS, and more. It is a visual language that synthesizes the classic principles of good design with the innovation and possibility of technology and science.

Panmedia is a digital agency focused on mobile, social media, online marketing, web development and games. The 17-year-old company develops highly effective digital strategies for its clients in Corporate Jamaica and across the Caribbean.

Panmedia created the first Jamaican portal, Jamaica Today, in 1966, and has been actively innovative on the Internet since. The Panmedia Network now comprises: Business Events, Art Events, Tenders Jamaica, Poll Jamaica, The Daily Source, and BlogJamaica. On Facebook, Panmedia launched Random Jamaica and Signs of the Times, and frequently runs Tug O War campaigns on issues of the day.

The company has created Facebook games for Digicel and develops apps on the social network for Scotiabank and other clients. In the past year, Panmedia has created several mobile apps that are available on iTunes, Google Play and BlackBerry App World.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: DEVELOPER – Mobile Apps & Websites
Reports To: Tech Lead
Supervises Directly: Junior Programmers

SPECIALIZED SKILLS
Excellent time management, client relations and interpersonal skills. Eye for details, deadline oriented and works well under pressure. Must be self-motivated to pursue and execute projects while working in the context of a larger team.

MAIN FUNCTIONS
• Assist in developing proposals for mobile apps & sites 
• Evaluate mobile apps / sites to be done and make recommendations
• Write programming for mobile apps / websites
• Assist with job costing for development
• Maintaining apps / websites hosted for clients
• Make recommendations for design refinement; make adjustments as appropriate
• Conduct research

SKILLS SET
* Strong knowledge of PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, XHTML, CSS
* HTML5, Phone Gap or native app development
* Drupal experience a plus
* Extensive PHP experience (Python experience would be a plus)
* Familiarity with AJAX (experience with frameworks like JQuery or YUI is a plus)
* Detail-oriented project management skills
* Excellent communication skills
* Experience with SEO

Authority To:
• Request information from clients, partners 7 suppliers
• Provide updates on mobile apps / sites projects and jobs to clients
• Access archives and other sources of information

Job successfully completed when:
• Mobile apps / sites are programmed according to customer’s specifications
• Maintenance and file protection schedule are executed on time 
• Interaction with customers and support personnel show a high level of professionalism
• Customers indicate a high level of satisfaction with services provided
• Confidentiality is maintained
• A positive contribution is made towards team objectives
